Why I Will Never Allow My Children To See the New Beauty and the Beast Movie

          I have to say, I knew that the Disney Corporation had gotten liberal over the past few years, but it has certainly gone too far in recent times. I began to notice how Disney has been trying to “sneak in” homosexuality in shows that are geared toward children. For example, in 2014, the Disney Channel’s show, Good Luck Charlie, featured a character that had “two moms.”  These two women who were portrayed as lesbians were actually present on the show. The two women who portrayed themselves as lesbians on the show only appeared in one episode, but that’s enough to make me not want to watch the show, and I will not let my children watch the show either.
     Last Christmas, I saw a commercial on the Disney Junior channel featuring the characters from the movie, Frozen.  The commercial featured clips from the film, along with clips of actual families. The point of the commercial was to show the importance of spending time with family during the holidays. In one clip of this commercial which was supposed to depict a “small family,” there were two men sitting together while holding two small children. This commercial was sponsored by the makers of the movie, Frozen.  I wrote a complaint to Disney about this commercial, since it had tried to portray a homosexual couple as a “family.”  I just got a general response about how the Disney Corporation tries to reach an audience with different backgrounds. I know that the Frozen movie itself does not have anything about homosexuality in it, however, after seeing the makers of this film connect its characters to the sin of homosexuality in a commercial, I have not let my children see this movie either, mostly because that commercial has not given me positive feelings about the film.
     These are just a few examples of how Disney has slowly exposed children to the sin of homosexuality over the years. Now, Disney has gone a step further by including a homosexual character in the new live-action Beauty and the Beast movie which was not in the original animated film. I have to say, I am very angry about this. Beauty and the Beast was one of my favorite Disney movies when I was growing up. It was the second movie I saw in a movie theater when I was in the first grade. So, when it was first announced that a live-action version of the film was to come out, I was excited, thinking that this would be a film that my children would like to see. When I heard that this was called the first children’s film that would feature a homosexual character, I was instantly turned off from wanting to see the film. I began to do some research on what was actually in the film concerning homosexuality, and I found the following;

1.      The director, Bill Condon, brags about the homosexual character, LeFou, in the film having an “exclusively gay moment.” That alone should keep any parent from wanting their child to see this film.
2.      I went onto a website which features a “parents guide” to all upcoming movies. According to the “Parents’ Guide” on this website, there is one scene where three men are trapped in an enchanted wardrobe, which dresses all three men in women’s clothing. The first two men run away, horrified at being in women’s clothing. The last man, however, seems very pleased to be dressed as a woman, and he is later seen dancing with LeFou, who stops dancing with a woman, to dance with a man dressed as a woman. This may be the “exclusively gay moment” of which the director of the film was referring.
3.      LeFou gives “adoring looks” and other mannerisms that suggest a same-sex attraction to another male character, Gaston.
        Now, some people may say that the questionable content in this film is not blatant, and therefore could be overlooked by movie goers. My issue with this argument is that if we pay to see a film like this, then we are promoting the homosexual agenda. No doubt, most people who go to see this movie are already aware about the controversy surrounding it, and therefore they are knowingly condoning the indoctrinating of young children to sinful behavior. Although the homosexual content in this film may be described as not blatant by today’s standards, a future children’s film may be even more blatant in support of homosexuality if Christians do not take more of a stand against such films.  For one thing, we should not be subjecting our children to the idea that homosexuality is “normal.” We do not want them to get the idea in their heads that it is acceptable to overlook sin in the world and become “used to it.” We have to teach our children to be in this world but not like the world around them.  “And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God” (Romans 12:2). Also, we must teach our children to stand up for God, even when their friends do not. For example, if your child has a friend who wants your child to go see this movie with him or her, then this is a great opportunity for your child to teach his or her friend about the importance of standing up for God’s Word, rather than succumbing to peer pressure. We should especially be teaching our children who are Christians to be a light unto the world. “Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven” (Matthew 5:16).
            I know that at the ages of 2 years, 1 year and 3 months, my children are too young to know that this movie is even in existence. However, I would not let them see this film even now, because I want to be able to tell them when they are older that I did not let them see a film that went against God’s Word.  Even if they were older and told me that they wanted to see the film, I would say “no” because I want them to learn that just because something is popular, doesn’t mean that it is less of a wrong thing to do. I hope that other Christian parents are doing this, also.
I hope that if you have children who want to see the new Beauty and the Beast film that you will sit down and talk with them about why they should not go and see it. You can make a Bible lesson out of the sins depicted in this movie that your children will remember and, they can even learn what to tell their friends to discourage them from seeing the film.
            If you have already allowed your children to see this film, I hope that you will strive to set a better example before your children in the future. Your children need a strong Christian example that they can look to in order to obtain the correct guidance they will need throughout their lives.  Let us never forget what Philippians 4:8 says, “Finally, brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report; if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these things.”
            I hope that this article helps shed some light onto the fact that Christians should not support the Beauty and the Beast film that was released earlier this week. Our children are subjected to so much wrong-doing in the world today, and we, as parents should teach them how to be selective in what they see and hear on the television, radio, internet and movie theater. Once something is seen or heard, it cannot be erased from memory.” I will set no wicked thing before mine eyes: I hate the work of them that turn aside; it shall not cleave to me” (Psalm 101:3).Let’s all stand up for God and stand against the new Beauty and the Beast film, and encourage others to do the same!
