Over the Christmas holiday, I have enjoyed watching my daughter, who is now old enough to enjoy Christmas lights and presents more so than last year. My son is only 2 months old, so I am looking forward to his introduction to Christmas next year. My daughter has enjoyed looking at the Christmas tree when it is lit as well as opening her gifts and watching Christmas shows on television. Not long before Christmas day, I noticed a particular commercial that appeared on the Disney Junior channel off and on during the day and at night as well, which featured clips from the animated movie, Frozen. The commercial was talking about the importance of family and how they help you. It featured clips from the film as well as images of real families. I had seen that commercial with my daughter several times and never noticed anything unusual until I happened to see it again one night after she had gone to bed. The commercial was talking about how some families are big and some are small. When it mentioned the “small” families, the commercial showed an image of a child with two men. I asked my husband to watch the commercial to see if he saw the same thing, and he said that he did. Since the commercial was a “Happy Holidays” promotion for the Frozen film, I am curious why the makers of the film would promote homosexuality. I have never seen the film, but I have not heard of anyone saying that there are things in the film that promote homosexuality. I do know, that the Disney corporation is liberal in that it does promote homosexuality. In a past episode of Good Luck Charlie, a show that airs on the Disney channel, a girl talked about having two mothers. I think it is horrible that the media is trying to “slip” in images of homosexuality to children so that they will grow up thinking that this sin is “normal.” Proverbs 22:6 states that you should “Train up a child in the way he should go, and when he is old, he will not depart from it.” I do not want my daughter or son to think that since homosexuality is promoted by the media that it is acceptable in the eyes of God. I also do not understand why the image of homosexuality was promoted only by the Frozen film in the ad as well. I have never seen the film, but as I have said, I have not heard of anyone talking about it having anything to do with homosexuality in it. I do, however, feel less inclined to let my children see the film now that this commercial has surfaced. I have written to the Disney channel and told them how the commercial was offensive to me and my family as Christians, and I also gave them Scripture which speaks against homosexuality. The scripture I used to speak against homosexuality were Leviticus 18:22, I Corinthians 6:9-11, and Romans 1:26-28. Another thing I was surprised about was how I had seen this commercial several times before noticing the image of the two men and child. This goes to show how the media is trying to slowly and quietly promote homosexuality to viewers, and unless more people stand up against those who support sinful acts, things like homosexuality will be more blatantly promoted in the future by the media. I hope that this article will help those who read it to monitor the shows and commercials that their children watch more carefully. The media is sometimes “sneaky” when it comes to promoting sin, especially to younger viewers, so it is our job as parents to intervene when necessary.
