God Has A Plan For Every Child

Before my husband and I were even engaged to be married, I had several dreams in which I dreamed of holding our future children that we had together. One dream in particular, which happened to be the first dream of this sort that I had, stood out as being very vivid, and it involved me holding my one-to-one and a half year old daughter. I remember very clearly what the little girl in my dream looked like. She had blonde, extremely curly hair, and big, beautiful blue eyes! Of course, my husband and I followed God’s Word concerning how that the act between husband and wife is to occur only in marriage.  We were blessed in 2014 with a child that turned out to be a girl, who, like the little girl that I dreamed about, has very curly blonde hair and big, beautiful blue eyes!
God certainly has plans for all of us before we are born, which is told to us in Jeremiah 1:5; “Before I formed thee in the belly I knew thee; and before thou camest forth out of the womb I sanctified thee, and I ordained thee a prophet unto the nations”. God knew who the prophet Jeremiah was and what he would accomplish even before he was conceived in his mother’s womb. Likewise, He also knew who we were before we were conceived, and He knows who our children are before they are conceived. That being said, if God already knows us and has plans for us before we are even conceived, then we should respect God’s will when it comes to life.  We should love and cherish those babies yet to be conceived, as well as those already conceived.
The Bible speaks very openly about how shedding innocent blood is a sin. “These six things doth the LORD hate: yea, seven are an abomination unto him:A proud look, a lying tongue, and hands that shed innocent blood, An heart that deviseth wicked imaginations, feet that be swift in running to mischief, A false witness that speaketh lies, and he that soweth discord among brethren.” (Proverbs 6:16-19). Therefore, any form of abortion, which is the termination of a human life after conception is obviously wrong.
I am reminded of a story I heard recently about a young married couple who had a child prematurely, and the child had to stay in the hospital for several months due to trouble breathing and low birth weight. Thankfully, that baby survived with God’s Help, and when that child was three or four years of age, this same couple wanted to try to have another child.  Before they began trying to conceive another child,  however, the couple were discouraged from wanting to have another  baby due to the negativity of others who told them that since their first child had trouble breathing and low birth weight, then the next child will have even more serious issues.
The couple became fearful that the negative thoughts that they were hearing from others could happen to a future child of theirs, so the mother decided to have a tubal ligation (getting tubes tied) procedure, rather than try for another baby. After having the procedure, she became expecting several times again, but the babies were not able to survive long enough to be delivered. It turned out that the doctor who performed the procedure did not do as she had expected, and the woman was still able to become expecting. The fertilized egg, however, could not continue to grow due to the mother’s tubal ligation procedure. The tubal ligation that this woman had in order to keep from conceiving any more children was an elective surgery rather than a surgery done for medicinal purposes. I realize that sometimes this type of surgery or surgeries like it are done for medicinal purposes.  But this was not one of those cases.
This story made me wonder what might have happened with those young babies had they grown to adulthood.  If the couple had chosen to trust in God rather than become afraid of what could have happened if they had any more children, then there is no telling the good that these future children, or their descendants might have done!  The mother in the story regrets having this elective procedure.  After all, God saw fit to allow their first child to survive amidst some serious obstacles, which showed that He had plans for that child too!
The Bible speaks openly about how children are blessings from God (Psalm 127:3-4). Also, it speaks of children being a joy, “A woman when she is in travail hath sorrow, because her hour is come: but as soon as she is delivered of the child, she remembereth no more the anguish, for joy that a man is born into the world” (John 16:21). If children are truly seen as blessings from God, then what would make people decide that they do not want these blessings? I know that most people, if not everyone would not choose to stop any other blessing from God, if they knew they were going to receive one.
What if there’s a case similar to the couple mentioned above where a previous child had some issues to overcome, and there is fear linked to the thought of having more children? We simply must trust in God.
As it relates to me, I feel that if God wishes to bless me with another child or children, then I will accept those blessings gratefully, because I know that He has a plan for me and all of my little ones!  I trust in God to take care of everything.
This is why when asked whether or not we are planning on having any more children, my husband and I respond by saying that we will take all of the children God wants to give us! I do not want to stop my ability to have the children God wants me to have. If He sees fit that I do not have any more children, then that is fine with me and my husband. If, however, God does decide to bless me with more children, then we will accept them joyfully!
I hope that this article has helped you think more about how children are blessings from God! There are so many in today’s world that do not view children in this way, and that is certainly a viewpoint that needs to change. May we all strive to treat our little ones with as much love and understanding as our Heavenly Father does for us and them!
